The coffee cup... I think about you...
And through it all it's like I'm losing my mind...~
It was 7:15 a.m. when she woke up. She rolled over hoping to go back to sleep but simply could not. She lay there thinking about the events of the last couple of days and decided it was no wonder she couldn't sleep. It had all started with Burton attack. She had been at Trent Davidsen's studio. Trent had just finished a workout and taken a shower. The bell to the studio's door rang and Trent obviously had not heard it. Shannon decided to see who was at the door. She went to the door and called out for the visitor to announce themselves. Whoever was on the other side stayed very quiet. Shannon called out again but still there was no response. Trent came out, having just finished dressing and opened the door, but there was no one there. He turned around to face Shannon and as he did so, Burton appeared from the shadows. The rest was a blur... Burton and Trent fought... Burton sprayed Trent with mace... he grabbed Shannon by the hair and was going to attack her when Trent redoubled his efforts and Burton released her. Somehow she laid hands on a knife and stabbed Burton in the back as he was about to do even more damage to Trent. Burton wheeled around and Shannon was knocked across the room and that was the last thing she remembered until waking up on the couch, looking up into Daren's eyes... evidently Daren had shown up and between he and Trent, Burton had been at least temporarily vanquished. ~The morning ends... I think about you; I talk to friends, and think about you, And do they know, its like I'm losing my mind?~ The next evening, upon arriving at the R&R, Shannon finds Daren in a booth speaking with Stephanie, Daren's ex-girlfriend. Stephanie had been gone from Voletta when Daren and Shannon's relationship blossomed and Shannon had been dreading the moment when Daren would next lay eyes on Stephanie. To protect her interests, she joined the pair and brought Trent along for moral support. Trent was rapidly proving himself as a good and true friend to her. While the foursome were in the booth, a man named Vortex came over and started demanding to know Daren's position with Jullea SunriseLUV... a girl who had very strong feelings for Daren; one of the first fights Shannon and Daren had was over Jullea. Daren and Shannon both assured the man that Daren's feelings for Jullea were platonic. Apparently the conversation at the booth turned, while Shannon was finishing up with Vortex, because suddenly the other occupants of the booth wanted to go outside to finish the conversation. They went outside when to Shannon's chagrin, Stephanie and Daren began climbing a tree to reach the roof of the R&R. Besides not being dressed for it (a silk dress and high heels do not make for excellent tree climbing), Shannon suffers from acrophobia... fear of heights. She could not climb the tree. Realizing what they were doing, and taking it as a personal affront, Shannon returned to the bar. All of the thoughts racing through her head... the attack by Burton, Stephanie's return, the confrontation with Vortex, and now feeling abandoned by her lover and the rest of the company... were more than she could deal with. She couldn't turn her mind off so she did what she could to shut them out. She began drinking. On the third shot of bourbon she just about had things under control when Daren appeared... and he was upset with her pouring the alcohol into her system. He demanded she stop, and when she refused... he started. Daren self-admittedly had a drinking problem and this added yet another log onto the fire that was Shannon's hotbed of stress. Both of their tempers were flaring and Shannon could take no more. She stormed out of the R&R and went walking home. Trent, being the good friend that he is, followed her in his vehicle. He tried to get Shannon to stop and either get in or talk to her... but she couldn't. She needed to walk this off. So Trent left her alone. A few blocks down the way, she walked into a rather seedy bar, ostensibly to call a cab. While she was waiting, she decided her personal beast needed a little more subduing so she had a couple more shots of bourbon. As she drank the second she knew she had gone way too far, but managed to stumble out of the bar and into the cab. All the way home, all she could think about was Daren... the things they had said to each other... what she had driven him to do to himself. Upon paying off the driver and stumbling out of the cab to her front stoop, she pulled out her cellular phone and called Daren's cellular line. But she was too intoxicated to realize that while she had Daren on the phone, he was out driving around, trying to find her. When he realized where she was, he sped over to her place. By the time he got there, the alcohol had such a grip on her she was completely lost. Daren started in on her for her drinking... demanding she get help. He gathered her up and drove her to the beach where he carried her out into the water and dunked first her head and then the rest of her into the Gulf waters. The cool February temperature of the water instantly shocked her back to sobriety. If only he had let it rest there... but he told her repeatedly that he could not stand by and watch her do this to herself. She had to get help for her drinking. Shannon maintained she did not have a drinking problem... it was just the stress of the last couple of days... but Daren would have none of it. Finally tired of the bickering and arguments, Shannon left... barefooted and shivering. Daren called her on her cellular phone... needing one last chance to say that he cared. Shannon tried to convince him that she loved him desperately... but to no avail. Daren would not be satisfied with simply her love. She walked home... still barefooted... still shivering... and cried herself to sleep. ~All afternoon doing every little chore, The thought of you stays bright. Some times I stand in the middle of the floor, Not going left... not going right...~ The next evening she was confronted by her friends upon reaching the R&R to try and make amends with Daren... John Davenport who had asked Daren to stand up with him at his impending wedding, told her he needed to find a new best man. Evidently, Daren had told John that he put the ball back into Shannon's court. Shannon felt Daren had ended the relationship... she was not more confused than ever. Shannon, not wanting her and Daren's problems to interfere with their mutual friends convinced John to maketever concessions Daren wanted... only to find out that Daren didn't even know if he still wanted her... even if he still loved her... As he made this revelation to her, he said he needed time to think... time to be alone. She watched him stand, and leave her alone at the bar. She prayed he'd come back to her. But she could not convince herself. What was she to do... wait for Daren or move on yet again with her life...? Only time will tell... ~I dim the lights and think about you. Spend sleepless nights and think about you. You said you loved me... or were you just being kind? Or am I losing my mind?~ ((Author's Note: Losing My Mind...
